A Passionate Principal’s Thoughts On Change

Chris Lehmann has so many good points. Reading the title “High School Stinks” would really catch anybody’s attention. Chris has so much to say and I really think that he should be heard. We face these problems everyday going in and out of school and teachers coming in and out to work. I think that theres so much that could be changed in today’s school systems, and people should start making these changes so that eventually we will have a better and more advanced society. People like Chris that make an effort to be noticed, are the people that are going to start having an effect on the new school system that will hopefully be in effect soon. http://www.connectedprincipals.com/archives/1726#comment-1569

Why Classes Should Blog (Reason 1)

http://bit.ly/dNMwc9 . This blog post posted by George, gives you the perfect example of why we need to start using technology more and more these days. People can keep in touch with others around the world.  The girl spoken about in this post is moving away and wont be able to stay at her current school. She told her teacher that she will always go on the blogger for her class and she will be able to still learn the things that her classmates are learning. And not only learning, she"ll be able to keep in touch with all of her friends that shes leaving. I think that the fact that she's going to be able to keep in touch is so great. And its all thanks to technology.

Should We Be Good at School?

Seth Godin's book, Linchpin: Are you Indispensable, had a segment in it that caught Tony Baldasaro's eye. He says, "The essential thing measured by school is whether or not you are good at school." Tony makes a good point by adding "Being good at school is a fine skill if you intend to do school forever." This such a good thought. Some people get crazy about worrying about getting good grades, although do you really need to be good at school in order to be a good worker? Once we get out of school, our “school” will really be working. I may not get the best grades, but I know that i am a good worker. For some people, it’s going to take a lot for them to think this way because they are so used to the school system that we’ve been living with for centuries.

RSA Animate Video

Yesterday in my web 2.0 class, we watched a video about a guy, Ken Robinson, that shared his opinion on school systems in this time period. As a matter of fact, my family and I discussed this at dinner last night. I think alot of people agree with the fact the school is very demanding. This system was made for a different time period. Ken talked about how more and more people are getting diagnosed with ADHD. Doctors are giving kids aderol, etc, to calm kids down so that they can focus on school work when in reality, they should be doing the complete opposite and make kids hyper so they can bring out their true personality and learn by themselves what they want to become in life. Alot of what ken was saying was opinion, but it really got us students thinking.

A Web 2.0 Class: Students Learn 21st Century Skills, Collaboration, and Digital Citizenship

I really think that this whole system is working out great. Being able to connect with other students in the same position I myself am in, is just refreshing. We are all putting in our best efforts to create each and every one of our PLN's. And together, I really think that we can start something new here.
